Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) Workshop: Fieldwork from Home

Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) Workshop: Fieldwork from HomeIntroducing a critical discussion of practices of field research pre- and post-covid and its entanglements in fast science, and the reproduction of power relations. Followed by a discussion on how patchwork ethnography may serve as a way forward - not only as practice of necessity but also as opportunity for ’research efforts that maintain the long-term commitments, language proficiency, contextual knowledge, and slow thinking that characterizes so-called traditional fieldwork.’ This is followed by a discussion of students’ (adapted) methodologies. Gökçe Günel & Chika Watanabe discuss, “Reflecting on field research pre- and post-Covid: Patchwork ethnography as a way forward.”
